We are a creative homeschooling family of 3. I have homeschooled my 2 boys from the start and we do lots of unit studies and get out into our beautiful part of the world as often as we can.
As the boys are getting older and we are getting busier I find I am posting less about our journey but will continue to update occasionally.

Week 6 Bower Birds and Lyre Birds

This weeks birds are reclusive and shy and they both live in the rain forest.

So we headed out on the back road up to the mountains, to visit Washpool National Park.

Spring has come to the mountains

and the wildflowers are starting

There are some beautiful granite formations at the top of the park

perfect for two little explorers to scramble over

and the views are spectacular

but the moist rain forest was beckoning
and the boys wanted to see the river, so we headed to Coachwood Pool.

We passed some majestic giants,
we think this one was a lady giant as she was wearing a beautiful skirt!

Once we entered the rain forest path we were in another world

One of beauty and silence

Even the boys were QUIET!-
they were in awe

There are two little explorers rockhopping in the pic above.

The moss and lichens were amazing

Mr tactile 10 was so impressed by the moss, he had to pat it.

We caught a fleeting glimpse of a lyre bird darting off the side of the track, but our lunch time guests more than made up for that elusive lyre bird and they were dressed to impress.

A male satin bower bird-
so shiny black- blue and he had the most amazing vivid violet eyes.

He bought two of his lady friends and they were very beautiful.
The markings are gorgeous and they blend in so well with the forest.
They also had the vivid violet eyes.

Such a beautiful place. Don't you just hope that the awe remains in their little hearts?
